It is no longer simply a matter of replacing manual labour with robotic arms, but of designing intelligent ecosystems in which robots, software and people work together to make warehouses and production lines more efficient, flexible and safe. <\/p>\n\n<p>In this context, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/en\/automatic-palletising-how-to-optimise-logistics-flows-with-scalable-and-mixed-systems\/\">warehouse robots<\/a> are playing an increasingly important role. From materials handling to order preparation, and from <strong>palletising<\/strong> to picking, robotic applications make it possible to automate repetitive tasks and support operators in the most complex stages of the logistics process. <\/p>\n\n<p>In this article, we analyse three of the most significant applications in the current landscape: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/en\/solutions\/robotic-stations\/\">robotic cells for palletising<\/a> and depalletising<\/strong>, collaborative <strong>robots (cobots) <\/strong>designed for picking parcels and items \u2014 including the new frontier of <strong>humanoid robots<\/strong> \u2014 and layer-by-layer <strong>picking technologies<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h2 id=\"1-robotic-cells-palletising-and-depalletising\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-5c436af14b756b0ca64ff22ed5a89b65\"><strong>1. Robotic cells: palletising and depalletising<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Robotic cells are now one of the most mature and widely used solutions for automating the handling of products at the end of the production line or on entry into the warehouse.<\/p>\n\n<p>A <strong>palletising station<\/strong> is an integrated cell in which an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/en\/anthropomorphic-robots\/\">anthropomorphic <\/a>(or Cartesian) robot picks up boxes, sacks or crates from the production line and arranges them on pallets according to predefined patterns, optimising space, load stability and compatibility with downstream transport systems. <strong>Depalletising <\/strong>carries out the reverse process: the robot picks up products from an incoming pallet to feed production lines or automated storage systems.<br\/> <\/p>\n\n<p>The main advantages of these solutions are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Reduction in physical fatigue and injuries<\/strong> associated with the manual handling of heavy and repetitive loads<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Increased productivity<\/strong>, thanks to continuous and predictable work cycles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Configuration flexibility<\/strong>, with the ability to manage multiple product codes and palletising patterns through simple software reprogramming<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Integration with machine vision systems<\/strong>, which enable the recognition of product shapes, orientations and anomalies in real time<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Robotic islands are particularly well suited to sectors with high volumes and standardised products, such as the food, beverage, chemical and pharmaceutical industries, but are also becoming increasingly common in settings with a variable production mix, thanks to multi-reference robotic arms.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"933\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isole-robotizzate.jpg\" alt=\"Robotic palletising using an industrial robotic arm\" class=\"wp-image-12284\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isole-robotizzate.jpg 933w, https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isole-robotizzate-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isole-robotizzate-768x440.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.erreviautomation.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/isole-robotizzate-200x114.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 933px) 100vw, 933px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h2 id=\"2-collaborative-robots-picking-parcels-and-parts-and-the-new-generation-of-humanoid-robots\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-88e320e8bf16d0a73b25d7f2f3d5086c\"><strong>2. Collaborative robots: picking parcels and parts, and the new generation of humanoid robots<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n<p>Whilst robotic cells typically operate in segregated areas, <strong>collaborative robots (cobots)<\/strong> are designed to work in close proximity to human operators, without the traditional safety barriers, thanks to force sensors, vision systems and proximity detection systems.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Package and item picking<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>In <strong>unit picking<\/strong> (cartons, boxes, crates), the cobot picks up entire packaging units to assemble orders or feed packaging lines.
