Exotec Skypod Next Generation: Innovative Technology for Robotic Warehouses

In recent years, logistics automation has revolutionized the robotic warehouse industry by improving efficiency, scalability, and performance. Among the most advanced solutions are Exotec Skypod, a Goods-to-Person system designed to optimize picking and internal transportation in warehouses.

On Feb. 6, 2025, Exotec unveiled the next generation of the Skypod system, with innovations that improve its performance, storage density, and software capabilities.

Exotec Skypod Next Gen integrates advanced features to handle both unit picking and case picking, simplifying logistics flow and reducing the need for external equipment such as conveyors, sorters and packing stations.

  • Increased efficiency: 50% increase in productivity per single workstation.
  • Increased storage capacity: 30% increase over the previous generation.
  • Full automation: reduced errors and faster warehouse operations.

The next-generation Skypod system is distinguished by three main innovations:

  1. Integrated Buffer. Completed orders are stored in system racks until ready for shipment, eliminating the need for temporary storage space.
  2. Perfect Sequencing. With robots and the high-capacity Exchanger, orders are organized outbound according to delivery routes and planograms, without the need for external sorting equipment.
  3. Optimized Pick-and-Pack. Operators pick directly into shipping containers, eliminating the need for an additional manual packing step, resulting in significant time and cost savings.

“When we designed the next generation Skypod, our goal was to create a solution that would set the standard for operational excellence and elegance for the industry for the next decade and beyond,”

said Romain Moulin, CEO and co-founder of Exotec.

“We are already seeing our customers reinventing their entire supply chain around the transformative capabilities of this innovation, from combining case and unit picking operations to using outbound sequencing to improve transportation costs. Seeing this level of impact has been incredibly rewarding.”

The new Skypod system was developed in response to market needs and the growing demand for scalable robotic warehouses. In the past two years, Exotec has implemented more than 20 projects globally, with customers such as Oxford Industries, E.Leclerc and Decathlon.

Maxence Maurice, CEO of E.Leclerc Seclin, said,
“We chose Exotec because of its high storage density and operational flexibility. Thanks to this innovation, the average time to pick up an order has gone from 10-15 minutes to less than 5 minutes.”

If your goal is to optimize your warehouse with an advanced Goods-to-Person system, Exotec Skypod is the ideal solution. With its scalability and automation, it improves efficiency, productivity and space management.
