What is a miniload automatic warehouse?

Shelving, stacker, conveyors, warehouse management software. By mixing these ingredients you get the miniload, an automatic warehouse for light loads. The miniload automatic warehouse is characterized by one or more lanes, with racking on both sides.

Through handling zones, the conveyors bring the loading units closer to the operator for the usual picking operations and, after picking, return the UDC to the stacker for shelving allocation.

All the operations of the miniload are carried out in extreme speed and in complete computerized management.

Who invented the first miniload?

The miniload is one of the types of system defined AS/RS, ie Automated storage & retrieval system. This technology was first developed by engineers at Demag, the German predecessor of Dematic .

In the 1950s, most of the logistical operations within a warehouse were manual and occurred near the ground. The massive use of forklifts meant that logistics developed horizontally and with low racking, with large warehouses where goods were stored where possible, without any demand-related control.

Friedhelm Podswyna, Horst-Werner Ruttkamp and Werner Kühn. They are the names of the Demag engineers who had the revolutionary idea to flip the horizontally developed shelves and fix them to the ceiling. In this way, some mobile uprights equipped with lifting devices could move up and down for each aisle of the shelving, in order to access the products stored inside.

What are miniloads for?

The automatic miniload warehouses offer quick access to trays, Cartons or containers of varying sizes in a high density storage facility. Thanks to their speed and precision, miniloads are the ideal solution for high volume production and distribution operations.

In addition, this automated storage system serves to apply the Goods-to-person principle: an order preparation logic in which products are delivered directly to the operator via automated systems. With this method, operators receive the necessary items to prepare an order at their pick stations, without the need to move from their location

What are the advantages of our miniload?

Investing in a miniload automatic warehouse means significantly improving the space management and operational efficiency of your logistics processes. Titan, our Multilevel shuttle, can offer more input and output capacity than the classic AS/RS systems. Relying on Titan has the following advantages:

  • Mulifunctional. Titan is able to access multiple levels of storage, and is therefore suitable for the economic storage of a wide range of goods
  • Essential. Titan is made up of easy to find essentials, so it has low maintenance costs.
  • Scalable. Thanks to its modular design, Titan is extremely adaptable to specifications and allows its remodulation according to future needs.
  • Flexible. Titan handles different loading units: trays, cardboard boxes, plastic boxes of different sizes and heights. Upon request, we can customize the UDC.
